How do I work?

Your choice as the client is paramount.
You will not be asked to do anything you don't want to.
I'm always looking towards working creatively whenever possible and you can expect to be invited to use creative tools or exercises.
I believe that this is the most effective way of helping people work through emotional difficulties and working towards changing things.

I also believe it is important to work at a pace you feel comfortable with.

Dramatherapy works with imaginary situations or make believe - the 'as if'. This is because sometimes focusing directly on an issue that has become a problem can be painful – almost too painful to look at.

In Dramatherapy we can create a distance from what is 'in your face' by making a story or a picture or using movement. Sometimes this may seem 'a long way away from home' but can help you deal with an issue more gradually or less painfully than by addressing it head on.

Of course, the sessions are not all “doing”. There is always time to talk and reflect if you need to.

Dramatherapy is often playful and fun. This is intentional and draws on the theory that we develop and grow as human beings in childhood through creative play.

Often as adults we can lose the inclination to play, or dismiss being playful as silly or childish. In Dramatherapy we draw on playfulness as a way towards learning about ourselves.

Lancaster really is one of the most beautiful cities in the north west of England, combining stunning urban and rural landscapes and views of the Lake District.
